The Walter E. Boehm Birth Defects Center provides a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary medical case management program for children born with birth defects of the brain and spine, particularly hydrocephalus and spina bifida. The Center addresses the medical, financial, and psycho-social needs of these children and their families at no charge to the families.
The Boehm Birth Defects Center provides financial, medical and psycho-social assistance to children born with congenital birth defects, such as spina bifida and hydrocephalus. We provide necessary medical care, ranging from routine clinical care and exams to advanced surgical procedures. We currently serve over 800 patients across the Southeast.
If insurance is not available, we work with the families to find resources to pay for needed medical care. The Center also provides financial assistance for durable medical goods such as walkers, wheelchairs, braces, and eyeglasses. The Boehm Center also assists with the psycho-social needs of families by offering services ranging from the handling of insurance and appointment scheduling to family and patient education.
